manufactured stone veneer that captures the character of natural stone with even more presence than the real thing
CAN’STONE
CAN’STONE is a stacked-stone-look manufactured stone veneer wall material (a precast concrete product) for use indoors and out. It captures the character of natural stone with even more presence than the real thing, at about 1/2 the weight of natural stone. Because it is made at our own factory in Japan, supply is dependable and original colors can be developed as well. Choose the finish that fits your design.

Important Notes
・CAN’STONE is an interior and exterior wall material modeled on natural stone.
・Because of the nature of the product, the edges are not always perfectly square, so small gaps may appear at the joints when pieces are butted together.
・Do not fill the joints (open joints).
・Corner pieces are not available; the flat shape only is produced. Please contact your sales representative if you need them.
・When installing on exterior walls, we recommend Repel S penetrating water repellent to help prevent staining, deterioration, and efflorescence.
・Colors vary from piece to piece, much as they do in natural stone, so mix pieces from several cartons as you install.
・CAN’STONE is a cement product. Acid washing must never be used.

FAQ
FAQ
Q1. Can CAN’STONE be used on exterior walls?
Yes, it can be used on exterior walls.
To keep it looking its best, we recommend using it together with our ancillary material Repel S (penetrating water repellent).
Q2. Is CAN’STONE an imported product?
No. It is made in Japan.
Craftsmen make each piece by hand at our own factory in Japan, so we can still supply material if repairs are needed in the future.
Q3. I have heard that stone tile made as a precast concrete product is weaker than porcelain tile. Is that the case?
It is true that it is not as strong as porcelain tile. In recent years, however, installing with flexible adhesive has become standard practice, which largely compensates for this, and cracking has become far less common.
Even if a crack does appear, our STONE+AID repair material makes it easy to fix, so you can specify it with confidence.
Q4. CAN’STONE is a cement product — is the cut edge cement gray?
No. Pigment is mixed into the mortar, so the cut edge is the same color as the face.
When cutting during installation, we recommend scoring a line and splitting the piece with a chisel and hammer.
Q5. Is there a risk of the product being discontinued?
No. Even if we discontinue a product for our own reasons, we can produce it again at our own factory.
You can specify it with confidence, knowing that material will be available if repairs are needed.
Q6. Is CAN'STONE non-combustible? Please tell us the certification number.
CAN'STONE is a non-combustible material.
Under the Building Standards Act, non-combustible materials fall into two categories:
Specified materials: non-combustible materials designated by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
Certified materials: non-combustible materials granted individual ministerial certification
Mortar and concrete, the materials CAN'STONE is made from, fall under the specified non-combustible materials. The certification number we are often asked about is issued only for certified materials.
Both count as non-combustible materials as defined by the Building Standards Act and can be used in the same way.
Q7. Can it be used in cold regions?
Yes, it can be used in cold regions. It is made to order, since production has to be to a frost-resistant specification. Please also avoid installing during seasons when the temperature falls to 5℃ or below, and schedule the work for a warmer time of year.
Q8. Can it be used around wood stoves and fireplaces?
Yes, in locations where the surface temperature stays at 200℃ or below. Note that ordinary resin-based adhesives lose bond strength at those temperatures, so a mortar-based adhesive is required. For a comparison of heat resistance by adhesive type and points to watch during installation, see “Can brick tile be used on walls around wood stoves and fireplaces? Heat resistance and installation guide”.
