manufactured stone veneer that captures the character of natural stone with even more presence than the real thing
CAN’STONE
CAN’STONE is a stacked-stone-look manufactured stone veneer wall material (a precast concrete product) for both interior and exterior use. It reproduces the character of natural stone with even more presence than the real thing, at roughly 1/2 the weight of natural stone. Because it is made at our own factory in Japan, supply is stable and original colors can be developed. Choose the look that fits your design.

Important Notes
・CAN’STONE is an interior and exterior wall material modeled on natural stone.
・When installing on an exterior wall, always fill the joints to at least 2/3 of the brick thickness. Without enough jointing mortar, water works its way behind the brick and causes it to come loose.
・For exterior walls we recommend “Repel S,” a penetrating water repellent, to help prevent staining, deterioration and efflorescence.
・Color varies from piece to piece — part of the character of natural stone — so mix pieces from several cartons as you set them.
・CAN’STONE is a cement product. Never acid wash it.
▶︎About precast concrete products
・CAN’STONE can be produced in custom colors. We can accommodate any quantity, so please contact us with your requirements.
・The quantities required per m² and per m assume the recommended joint width.

・MT-MEJI coverage (25 kg bag), Standard Joint: 9.5–10.5 m² per bag
FAQ
FAQ
Q1. Can CAN’STONE be used on exterior walls?
Yes, it can be used on exterior walls.
To keep it looking its best, we recommend using it together with our ancillary material “Repel S” (penetrating water repellent).
Q2. Is CAN’STONE an imported product?
No. It is made in Japan.
Every piece is made by hand by our craftsmen at our own factory in Japan, so we can supply matching material if repairs are needed in the future.
Q3. I have heard that manufactured stone veneer made as a precast concrete product is weaker than porcelain tile. Is that true?
It is true that the strength is lower than porcelain tile. In recent years, however, installation with flexible adhesive has become standard practice, which compensates for this in most cases, and cracking has decreased significantly.
Even in the unlikely event that a crack appears, our “STONE+AID” repair compound makes it easy to fix, so you can specify it with confidence.
Q4. CAN’STONE is a cement-based product — is the cut edge cement gray?
No. Pigment is mixed into the mortar, so the cut face is the same color as the surface.
When a piece has to be cut on site, we recommend scoring a line and splitting it with a chisel and hammer.
Q5. Is there a risk that the product will be discontinued?
No. Even if an item is discontinued for our own reasons, we can put it back into production at our own factory.
You can specify it with confidence, knowing material will still be available if repairs become necessary.
Q6. Is CAN'STONE non-combustible? Please tell us the certification number.
CAN'STONE is a non-combustible material.
The Building Standards Act recognizes two kinds of non-combustible materials:
“Specified” materials: non-combustible materials specified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
“Certified” materials: non-combustible materials that have received individual certification from the Minister
The mortar and concrete CAN'STONE is made from are classified as “specified” non-combustible materials. The certification number we are often asked about is issued only for “certified” materials.
Both count as non-combustible materials under the Building Standards Act and can be used in the same way.
Q7. Can it be used in cold regions?
Yes, it can. Material for cold regions is produced to a frost-resistant specification and is therefore made to order. Please avoid installing in seasons when the temperature falls below 5°C, and schedule the work for a warmer time of year.
Q8. Can it be used around wood stoves and fireplaces?
Yes, in areas where the surface temperature stays at 200°C or below. Ordinary resin-based adhesives lose bond strength at these temperatures, so a mortar-based adhesive is required. For a comparison of heat resistance by adhesive type and points to watch during installation, see “Can brick tile be used on walls around wood stoves and fireplaces? Heat resistance and installation guide”.
