This is the exterior wall construction method for the brick tile "CAN'BRICK" (conventional wet construction method).
Applicable substrate: Concrete/block/lath mortar
By using the elastic adhesive (MT-BOND-FLEX), it can be used on siding substrates that cannot be applied using wet construction methods with resin mortar. Even with conventional mortar substrates, it is more elastic than wet construction methods with mortar, so it can follow the movement of the substrate and suppress the occurrence of cracks.
*Since the joints are filled with mortar after the adhesive has hardened, the construction period is longer than with conventional wet construction methods.
1. Surface preparation
A. In the case of concrete, block, or raspberry base...
After inspecting and cleaning the base, apply an adhesive enhancer (such as Tilement EV-300) with a roller. In the case of a rasmol base, allow sufficient curing time to ensure that it is completely dry and has minimal unevenness before applying the adhesive enhancer.
B. In the case of wooden base...
Apply waterproof paper and use it as a mortar base, or create a mortar base on top of a mortar board. After allowing sufficient time for curing, carry out the same work as in (a).
※point※
◎ Avoid carrying out installation in rainy weather and carry out on a sunny day.
◎ When carrying out work during cold seasons, do not carry out work when the temperature is below 5°C or if it is expected that the temperature will drop below 5°C during the curing period after work.
2. Applying mortar
Apply resin mortar (recommended: Nippon Kasei NS-ST mortar) to the base, squeezing it in, and then apply about 3 to 5 mm of top coat. The area to be painted at one time should be the area where the bricks will be laid within 30 minutes of open time (working time), or within 1 MAIKO KANNO².
※point※
The open time varies depending on the season, temperature, and other conditions. If you touch the resin mortar applied to the base with your hand and it does not stick to your hand, the open time is too long. Check as you work and shorten the open time according to the situation.
3. Installation (Improved crimping method + vibration tool)
Apply resin mortar to the entire back surface of the brick. The back surface of the brick is slightly uneven, so apply enough resin mortar so that the legs of the brick are no longer visible. After that, use a vibration tool to press the resin mortar into the joints until it overflows.
※point※
◎CAN'BRICK has a low water absorption rate, so there is no need to soak the brick in water or apply a primer to the back of the brick before construction, which were precautions for conventional cement-based brick construction. However, this does not apply to the base, so preparations must be made according to the base conditions.
◎ Installation should be done using the improved pressure-attaching method and a vibrating tool should be used.
◎To check the adhesive adhesion during installation, peel off several pieces every 2 m2 and check whether the resin mortar is attached to the entire back side. If there is not much resin mortar attached to the back side, recheck and adjust the thickness of the coating on the base or increase the amount of resin mortar applied to the back side of the brick.
4. Joint finishing
Fill the joints with the special joint material "MT-MEJI" using a joint bag, etc. After filling, roughly press with a joint trowel. Check that it covers at least 1/2 the thickness of the brick and the desired finish (see joint finish), and fill in any insufficient areas with a joint bag, etc.
※point※
Don't worry if the trowel leaves uneven marks, just finish the job, and finally use a brush or scissors to scratch the joints in places to make them look weathered.
◎Do not install without joints.
5.Curing and water absorption prevention treatment
Avoid ventilation and direct sunlight, and protect the bricks by covering them with sheets, etc. Allow the bricks to cure for a sufficient period after construction, and make sure they are completely dry. Then thoroughly brush off any dust on the brick surface and in the joints.
After that, apply the penetrating water absorption prevention agent "REPEL・S" using a sprayer, brush, roller, etc.
◎Since CAN'BRICK is a secondary cement product, acid washing is strictly prohibited.
