TRATTORIA ICIEI × Rustic Shadow (RUS-1) / Cambridge (CB-5, CB-3)

CAN’STONE imitation stone wall material “RUSTIC SHADOW (RUS-1)“, CAN’BRICK brick tile “CAMBRIDGE (CB-3, CB-5)“, and the imported tile “TERRA (EVELINA)” were adopted for the interior of “TRATTORIA ICIEI,” an Italian restaurant in Setagaya, Tokyo.

▎CAN’STONE “RUSTIC SHADOW (RUS-1)”

Behind the counter, the irregular imitation stone “RUS-1” — inspired by mountain ridges and rocky outcrops — was installed with a wide joint pattern and a standard joint finish. The natural relief created by stones of varying sizes gives the wall a rich expression, and together with the wooden counter it builds a space full of material presence. A yellow joint color blends naturally with the tone of the stone.

▎CAN’BRICK “CAMBRIDGE (CB-5)”

The walls of the private room are finished with the brick tile CAMBRIDGE “CB-5,” laid with a random joint pattern and a full joint finish. Because the restaurant serves Italian cuisine, we deliberately proposed a yellow tone of the kind often seen in European streetscapes.

Rather than stacking the bricks in neat courses, we varied their placement into a random joint pattern and combined it with the calm brown joint color chosen by the owner, creating the plain, rustic atmosphere of an old barn.

▎CAN’BRICK “CAMBRIDGE (CB-3)”

At the opening that leads from the main dining area to the private room at the back, the red-brown CAMBRIDGE “CB-3” is laid along an arch.

On an arch, conspicuous joints tend to leave a jagged impression, so the joint color was chosen in red-brown, the same family as the brick. To keep a sense of depth, the joints are recessed in a standard joint finish.

Where no U-shaped trim piece was available, we touched the work up with our own repair material “BRICK+AID” so that the seams would not stand out.

▎Tile Capsule “TERRA (EVELINA)”

For the washroom floor, the design tile TERRA “EVELINA” — an indigo arabesque pattern on a white ground — was chosen. Four 115 mm square tiles complete a single motif, and a white joint color lets the pattern itself stand out.

At “TRATTORIA ICIEI,” where you can enjoy Italian cuisine, attention to detail is felt in the making of the space as much as in the food. Please visit in person and enjoy both the cuisine and the space♪
